Ingredients:
- Fish fillets: 500 grams (any firm fish like cod, tilapia, or salmon)
- Oil: 2 tbsp
- Onion: 1 large, finely chopped
- Tomatoes: 2 medium, pureed or finely chopped
- Garlic: 4-5 cloves, minced
- Ginger: 1 tsp, grated
- Green chilies: 1-2, slit (optional)
- Coconut milk: 1 cup (optional, for creaminess)
- Water: 1/2 cup (adjust for desired consistency)
- Spices:
- Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
- Red chili powder: 1 tsp
- Coriander powder: 1 tsp
- Cumin powder: 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala: 1/2 tsp
- Salt: To taste
- Fresh coriander leaves: For garnish
Instructions for Fish Curry Recipe
1. Marinate the Fish:
- Wash and pat dry the fish fillets. Sprinkle with a pinch of turmeric, chili powder, and salt, Set aside for 5 minutes.
2. Fry the Fish:
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Lightly fry the marinated fish for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden.
- Remove and set aside.
3. Prepare the Curry Base:
- Heat the remaining oil in the same pan. The chopped onions should be sautéed till golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 1 minute.
- Cook until the oil separates after adding the tomato puree.
4. Add Spices:
- Add cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and turmeric.
5. Simmer the Curry:
- Add water and bring to a gentle boil. Adjust salt as needed and stir well.
6. Cook the Fish:
- Gently place the fried fish into the curry. Simmer for 8-10 minutes, allowing the fish to absorb the flavors.
Finish the Dish:

- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and sprinkle with garam spice.
Serve:
- Serve hot with steamed rice or flatbreads.
